Information on Bulk Insulation and Reflective Insulation

There are many types when it comes to insulation. However, bulk insulation and reflective insulation are the 2 most common types of insulation. Let’s focus on these 2 widely used type of insulation.

  1. Bulk Insulation – The bulk insulation works in a different way. It works by trapping the still air that comes in tiny pockets within its structure. The still air acts as a barrier to the heat that keeps flowing. The R-Value of bulk insulation does not offer a proper estimated value even when there is bulk insulation involved.
  2. Reflective Insulation – The way reflective insulation works is different when compared to bulk insulation. This type of insulation comprises of polished metal surface which helps to reduce the emission of radiant heat from the surface. Just beside the reflective side of the insulation, there needs to be some air gap of around 25mm in order to for the reflective insulation effective. Since reflective insulation is all about reflecting heat energy, it works wonders at places having high temperatures where the R-value is more. However, when it comes to cooler temperature, the R-value is less. The R-Value of reflective insulation is around R0.0.23 and R0.9 during the winter and summer respectfully after installing a layer of foil under the roof tiles.

Therefore, these 2 types of insulations depend on where you reside. If you reside in a warmer region, then bulk insulation is the way to go. However, if you reside in a colder region, then reflective insulation is your best bet.

You can also use rhino reflective insulation for your homes during the cold season.
